September 7, 1962 - March 4, 2018
Angela "Angie" Sue (Hawkes) McMillan, was born on September 7, 1962 in York, Pennsylvania , and is the daughter of Sharon E. (Smeltzer) Hawkes of Norfolk, VA and George L. Hawkes, Jr. She has one sister, Melinda L. (Hawkes) Ambrose and her husband Matthew of Norfolk, VA and three half siblings, Lance L. Hawkes and his wife (Becky) of New Oxford, PA, Lenny L. (Hawkes) Levinsky and his husband Dan of Thomasville, PA and Lavina (Hawkes) Grimes and her husband Craig of New Oxford, PA. She has five nieces and nephews, Kiersten M. Ambrose, Kyle Hawkes, Kali Hawkes, Lexi Hawkes and Nathan Grimes and a step daughter, Patrice Williams of York. Angela attended York County Vocational Technical School and was a graduate of the Class of 1980. She met and fell in love with Thomas L. McMillan with whom she had two sons, Brandon R. McMillan and his wife Irene of Norfolk, VA and Travis L. McMillan of Newark Delaware. After graduation she worked as a nursing assistant at the Margaret Moul Nursing Home in York and then moved to New Jersey where she was a CNA Supervisor at the Metheny Home for children with disabilities. In 1992 she moved to Virginia where she resided until 2014. While in Virginia she was diagnosed with cancer in 1999 and underwent radiation and chemotherapy after which she went into remission. After her battle with cancer, she began volunteering with the Relay for Life Cancer Organization. In 2014 Angela moved back to York and then in 2016 was diagnosed with recurrent cancer. She fought very hard as bravely as she could until Sunday March 4, 2018, when she finally got her wings and become a butterfly. Angela loved being close to the ocean and taking walks with her dogs and two sons on the beach. Family was always very important to her. She loved all thinks associated with angels, fairies, butterflies and Native American heritage. She was a woman who loved to help those in need and passed that trait off to her two sons. She was always full of joy, laughter, passion and determination. Besides her loving husband and two sons, she also leaves her beloved dogs, Deeno, Teddy and Izzie. Whenever you see a butterfly or an angel, always remember me and know I will always be by your side. Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard Him call, I turned away and left it all. I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that place at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. Ah yes, these things, I too shall miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much.. Good friends, good times a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief; don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Left up you heart and share with me, God wanted me now, HE SET ME FREE.
