Blanche E. (Tompkins) Hamilton

August 19, 1930 - August 19, 2011

RED LION Blanche E. (Tompkins) Hamilton, 81, entered into rest after a lengthy illness on Friday, August 19, 2011, at 2:10 a.m. at Manor Care Dallastown. She was the wife of Charles L. Hamilton, who entered into rest on Oct. 15, 2010. Born in Philadelphia on November 12, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Ethel Blanche (Frey) Tompkins. She was a licensed practical nurse working for 26 years with the late Dr. Grover Artman. Blanche was a longtime and active member of St. Paul's UM Church in Red Lion where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and in the Prayer Group of the church. She was a charter member of the Memorial Osetopathic Hospital Guild. Blanche enjoyed volunteering whenever asked, loved going to visit with those in the hospital and nursing homes, and assisted with the bake sales for many years. She was a den mother with the cub scouts and helped with the girl scouts. She is survived by two sons, David L. Hamilton of Red Lion and Donald A. Hamilton and wife, Robin of Charleston, W.Va.; one daughter, Vickie L. Kilgore and husband, Allen of Brogue; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Doris Gohn of Carlisle and Ruth Smith of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. The service will follow at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Charles W. Salisbury, officiating. Burial will be at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be offered to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 45 First Ave., Red Lion, PA 17356. Blanche was a wonderful Mother and the absolute best Grandmother in the world. She was very dedicated to her family and her church. Every Monday evening was family dinner night and her family knew, if out of town, to be home for dinner on Monday. Her words to her family, "I Love You", always ended every visit and call. Blanche's family would like to say "thank you" to all of those who sent cards, flowers and remembered them in prayers during the illness and loss of both Charles and Blanche.
