Dale Swope

November 22, 1931 - October 19, 2015

Dale Swope, formerly of Brogue, entered into eternal rest after a brief illness on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015 at 7:28 p.m. at Manor Care Kingston Court at the age of 83. He was the husband of Betty M. (Tome) Swope of Columbia.Dale was born in Shanks Ferry on November 22, 1931, and was the son of the late Cyrus and Verna Grace (Lehman) Swope. Dale worked at a farm for many years in Collinsville owned by Harold Good and in later years he worked at Schaeffer's Wholesale Florist, retiring after many years of service. He was a life member of Springville Free Gospel Church, Bull Run Road in Craley, where he formerly served as the Treasurer. He was the former Caretaker of Springville Cemetery. Surviving him are his wife, Betty; two sons, Elwood "Woody" D. Swope of Manchester, Earl D. Swope and wife Lisa of Kernersville, N.C.; a daughter, Doris M. Ney and husband Michael of Columbia; a granddaughter, Daphne Ney Mazza of Columbia; six sisters, Miriam Haugh, Thelma Gemmill and Arlene Hanes, all of York, Lois Miller of New Freedom, Charlotte Zink of Fairfield and Treva Myers of Spring Grove; two brothers, Merle Swope of York and Carl Swope of Brogue; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Delores Mary Swope, who entered into rest on June 30, 1986; and five brothers. Viewings will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. Service of Honor and Praise for Dale will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. His pastor, the Rev. Levere S. Crawford, will officiate. Burial will be in Springville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to Heartland, 3417-C Concord Road, York, PA 17402; or to; Alzheimer's Association GPA, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
