James Edward "Ed" Joines

James Edward “Ed” Joines, of Jacobus, received his Lord and Savior’s invitation to the promised land on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 4:23 am from Transitions Health Care in Gettysburg at the age of 98. Ed was born in West Virginia on October 3, 1922 and was the son of the late Reid and Lura (Walker) Joines. He worked for many years at the former Yorktown Kitchens and then at Keener Kitchens until they closed, and he retired. He attended Turnpike Baptist Church in Shrewsbury. Ed enjoyed taking trips to Potter County, going to car shows and riding his motorcycle. He was a United States Army veteran, serving during WWII in both Germany and France and he was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. He has two stepdaughters, Kay Waltemire (Kenneth) and Pat Wolford, both of Brogue, and a grandson who he was remarkably close to, Randy Lutz and his wife Deb of Felton. Ed was the eldest of 15 children, and he also has numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. All services and burial will be private and at the convenience to the family, at a later date.
