Lois I. Ditty

Lois I. Ditty, of Red Lion, went from this earthly life to her eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 4, 2022, at 12:52 pm from her home at the age of 72. She was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Ditty. Lois was born in Harrisburg, PA on March 14, 1950. She graduated from Millersburg Area High School Class of 1968. After graduating, she went on to college at Shippensburg State Teachers College eventually earning her master’s degree. She worked for several years with the County of York in Children and Youth services and then became a Case Manager at York County Early Intervention, where she retired in 2015 after many years of services. She was a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Red Lion where she held various committees throughout the years and was a member of the Women’s Fellowship, Jokers, and a former Sunday School teacher. Lois was continually active in her community too. She volunteered in the NICU as a cuddler, helped at the Red Lion Community Reach, she was a Big Sister (eventually having the pleasure of seeing a former student rise to success), a volunteer with the contact mental health hotline, Kaltreider-Benfer Library in Red Lion, she would visit nursing homes and read to the residents and she also taught adults, who did not know how to read, to read. She also was a very nurturing person and helping her nieces and nephews in any way they needed. Lois was one of five children. She leaves her two sisters, Shirley E. Longabach of Elizabethville, PA, and Grace M. Sweigard and her husband Bill of Millersburg, PA She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy A. Novinger, and Mary Ellen Ditty, as well as someone very special to Lois, Lane Hartley. Lois was very fond of her many nieces and nephews, and had a special bond with Alex and Sarah, who she referred to as her “niblings”. Cremation will take place with Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. Family and friends are invited to extend their condolences on Saturday, April 9th, from 10-11 am at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 161 N. Main Street, Red Lion. A Memorial Service to Honor and Praise Lois will begin at 11 am at the church, with her pastor, Rev. David D. Tietje, officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Rife, PA.
