Merle E. (Waltemyer) Shelley

September 6, 1923 - September 26, 2018

Merle E. (Waltemyer) Shelley of Red Lion, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at 5:50 am, at Misericordia Nursing Home at the age of 95. She was the wife of the late Ray “Peck” J. Shelley who entered into rest on June 23, 1997. She was born on September 6, 1923, in Laurel, Chanceford Township and was the daughter of the late Adam Roland and Beulah (Ewing) Waltemyer. Merle was raised by foster parents, the late James and Theresia Renner in Woodbine. She went to Lower Chanceford High School, and worked as a machine operator at Auto Kraft Box Corp. in Red Lion, prior to her retirement in 1987 after almost 39 years of service. She loved going to auctions, was a member of AARP, and Disabled Veterans Ladies Auxiliary. She and her late husband had traveled extensively within and out of the country. Merle had no children but was a second mother to her numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves her very dear friend, Reba Booth of Fawn Grove. Merle was preceded in death by her three sisters, Evelyn Kauffman, Ruth Rehmyer and Eleanor Runkle. Viewing will be on Monday, October 1st from 1-2 pm at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Service of Honor and Praise for Merle will begin at 2 pm at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Chester V. Joines, retired pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel UM Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to: Bethel Cemetery Association, c/o- James Howard, PO Box 25, Brogue, PA 17309 or to DAV, 2045 G Raleigh Road, Hummelstown, PA 17036. Merle was a very kind and sweet person. She had the most beautiful smile that could light up a room as soon as she entered. God looked upon his garden and saw an empty place. He then looked down upon this Earth and saw your tired face. He knew the road was getting tough, and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids, and whispered, “Peace be thine.” Until we meet again, in that mansion in the sky, I’ll be with you in your hearts.
