William W. Hare

January 31, 1926 - January 23, 2022

William W. Hare, of York, went from life to Life Eternal on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 9:59pm at ProMedica South at the age of 95. William was the husband of Mercedes (Neiman) Hare who entered into rest on August 31, 2011. Bill was born in Shrewsbury on January 31, 1926 and was the son of the late Lawrence A. and Rosella M. (Smith) Hare. He graduated from Glen Rock High School and enlisted in the service, serving in the United States Army Airforce during WWII as a staff sergeant from 1944 to 1946. Bill was assigned to the 486 Bomber Group in Sudbury, England, where he was an engineer mechanic and gunner on the B-17 planes. He was a very proud veteran and proud of his country. Bill began a career working as a dispatcher for Met Ed, where he retired from at the age of 55 after many years of service. Bill enjoyed traveling with his wife, watching Nascar and hunting & fishing with his son in law, Kenneth. He leaves his four daughters, Beverly Jane Crossland and husband, Kenneth, of Red Lion, Diane Louise Blymire, of York, Karin M. Weber and husband, David, of Reading and Rajean M. Hare and fiancé, Dennis, of Windsor, and a son, Lawrence W. Hare and wife, Holly, of Red Lion. He was the grandfather to James A. Blymire, Michael E. Blymire, John W. Hare, Odessa Nadine Hare and Brandon D. Crossland, as well as the great grandfather of four. He also leaves his nieces. Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Collins Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Shrewsbury. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion is assisting the family with arrangements. Contributions in Bill’s memory may be offered to the York County Veterans Honor Guard, PO Box 712, Mount Wolf, PA 17347.
